I wrote this one for one of my closest friends who recently turned 18. I performed this at her birthday party (it was excellent, honestly one of the best debuts I’ve EVER been to), and I was honestly super happy that she liked it, and it looked like the crowd did as well. ❤

Anyway, Hesed has been a big impact in my life. I used to hate talking and interacting with people in general, but she changed that about me. Sure, we didn’t get along well as kids, but now I know just how blessed I am to have a friend like her. She’s extremely warm and caring, plus she’s a good leader and follower of God. I guess you can say I really look up to her, and I try to model my attitude towards responsibility after hers, haha.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12

Eighteen turns ‘round the sun

Tonight you shine the brighter one

Ten revolutions back, our orbits met

Little did I know what destiny He’d set

Children play their cruel games

And we were no more than faces and names

I did not yet know you, nor you me

And sometimes I wonder if the story were told differently

But I like how this song played out

Like the sweet melody from your mouth

Five revolutions back, our worlds collided

And I gained the loudest heart to which I could have confided

Five revolutions back and you had changed –

As warm, bright and blithefully strange

As a newborn sun, just finding her place

In the grand infinitude of chaos called space

I was pulled into your wild, graceful spin

And you made me speak and made me sing

You broke through my silent atmosphere,

And proclaimed a resounding, “You have a friend here.”

You changed, and it changed me

And on it goes, as we are becoming we

Hopeful lights in this blinded earth

Revolving around, in and for Rebirth

I know you better now than ever before

And in a way, I’ve also come to know myself more

You are both model and muse

Of how God’s children should be used

If who we are is who we’re meant to be

Then by pushing me on you’ve pulled me closer to me

God be praised for all that we’ve been through

God be praised for what more He will do

Eighteen turns ‘round the sun

Tonight you shine the brighter one

God be praised for when He said,

“Glory to My Name, I give the world Hesed.”
